Ecomuseum of the Avesnois

The Écomusée de l'Avesnois is a 'Musée de France' located in the heart of two former industrial sites in the textile and glass industries, emblematic of the Avesnois-Thiérache region: the former Prouvost-Masurel spinning mill in Fourmies and the former Parant glassworks in Trélon. Within this remarkable architectural heritage, the collections showcase industrial and ethnological heritage from the 19th century to the present day.

MTVS - Musée du textile et de la vie sociale (Museum of Textiles and Social Life)
Fourmies was the principal centre of the woollen textile industry in France in the second half of the 19th century. The museum houses in the single-storey former Prouvost-Masurel wool-spinning mill which worked between 1874 and 1970. All the principal stages in the manufacture of woollen cloth are explained in exhibitions that include more than 100 machines, mostly from the period 1880-1900, and from mills in the region.

AMV - Atelier-Musée du verre (Glass Workshop Museum)
The site of the glass factory in Trélon (Rue Clavon Collignon 12) is an outstanding heritage, one of the few buildings preserved from the industrial history of the region. Architecturally, the site known as the hall, a metal architecture of the Eiffel type, has not been subject to any major requalification since it was opened as a museum in 1980. Its authenticity and its installations have been largely preserved. It is listed as a Historic Monument.
