Harbour Museum of Dunkirk

The harbour museum is housed in a former tobacco warehouse dating from 1869 on the Quai de Citadelle at the Bassin de Commerce. It tells of the herring fishery of the Middle Ages, the naval wars during the period of European expansion, the cod fishery near Iceland, the commercial port of modern times and the modern industrial port. On the upper floor a rich collection of ship models is presented. At anchor are three museum ships: the three-master "Duchesse Anne", the lightship "Sandettie" and the inland waterway vessel "Guilde". The museum also includes a lighthouse of 66m hight that offers a fantastic view and an exhibition on navigation.
