East of England Tourism Chief launches ERIH "THE INDUSTRIOUS EAST" white live rockets

Keith Brown, Chief Executive of East of England Tourism recently launched “The Industrious East,” a network of ERIH sites representing industry in the East of England at Royal Gunpowder Mills. Keith Brown welcomed the ERIH initiative and said, “The East of England is a region rich in Industrial Heritage with 30 attractions in the ERIH network.

The launch of “The Industrious East” was marked with a series of huge bangs from the Royal Artillery Rocket Troop of the 95th Rifles as troopers dressed in costume fired some amazing rockets across the site.

During the meeting with ERIH site representatives, Dr Wolfgang Ebert highlighted the importance of telling a common story of the people who worked in industry: the miner in the UK had to cope with similar problems and risks as the miner in Germany or Belgium. Essex County Council Cllr Jeremy Lucas, Cabinet Member for Heritage, Culture and the Arts acknowledged the work done by the local team, partners in the East of England and internationally in establishing “The Industrious East”; while Television personality Paul Gogarty commented, “ERIH is an iconic brand and I welcome “The Industrious East” most warmly”.

Representatives from some of the 30 industrial sites in the region spoke about their experiences in attracting visitors and the interpretation of their sites: Trevor Knapp, of Royal Gunpowder Mills, Joe Carr from Time & Tide (Great Yarmouth), David Watson from Wimpole Home Farm (Cambridge), and Jean Grice from the Warner Textile Archive (Braintree).
