ERIH Exhibition Winners

50 lucky prizewinners have just received visitor passes and gifts donated by major ERIH sites following their successful entry in the ERIH Exhibition’s.

This travelling exhibition illustrated the history of industrial heritage; it highlighted the 26 major ERIH sites and the regional routes in the UK and encouraged visitors to seek more information via the web site www.erih.net

The celebration to mark 50 years of the EU in 2007 was used as a theme to celebrate the first five years since the founding of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.   As the EU breaks down borders so the development of ERIH is encouraging visitors to explore their heritage across different countries so they can discover the conditions for miners in the Rhur and in the UK as an example.

The exhibition travelled across the country reaching the North of Scotland and then down to the South coast. We would like to thank the sites who hosted the exhibition and those who contributed prizes including:  The Science Museum, Severn Valley Railway, Thinktank Birmingham, National Slate Museum, Coors Museum of Brewing, Cromford Mill, Morwellham Quay, Historic Dockyard Chatham, the Rhondda Heritage Park, Lions Salt Works, Blackcountry Living Museum, Gladstone Pottery Museum, New Lanark, Merseyside Maritime Museum, National Waterfront Museum, Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust, National Coal Mining Museum, Wilkin & Sons and the Association of Industrial Archaeologists’ Conference.

Encouraging more families to visit sites is a key aim for ERIH and during 2008 the exhibition will tour again. When finalised the programme of ERIH sites and other venues will be posted on the website.
