Blaenavon World Heritage Centre Now Open

On 25th March The Right Honourable Rhodri Morgan First Minister of the Wales Assembly Government formally opened the new centre providing an interpretation centre for the industrial history of the area famous for iron, steel and coal production and for the story of early industrial society. The Blaenavon Industrial Landscape was inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in December 2000.

The First Minister expressed continuing support for the World Heritage Site and commented on how effectively this had been linked with the local regeneration programme. Dr Wolfgang Ebert representing ERIH spoke of the significant uplift he had seen in the community with the increasing international recognition of its industrial heritage.
