Itinéraire thématique des transports

La révolution industrielle entraîna rapidement un changement radical dans les transports – en échange, le ronflement des nouveaux bateaux à vapeur et la fumée des locomotives accéléraient l’industrialisation. Le changement commença avec les routes fluviales qui, depuis des siècles, s’étaient avérées les plus efficaces pour assurer le transport des marchandises. Dans la région du textile du Lancashire, l’un des berceaux de l’ère industrielle, le canal Bridgewater fut achevé en 1761.
